Weston-super-Mare - Air Show and Beachy Times

Living in Gloucestershire there is very little in the way of beaches nearby.  We have some beautiful rivers and canals but there is a distinct lack of sea.   The closest beach for us would be either Weston-super-Mare in Somerset or Barry, across the border in Wales.  Although the latter would always be my first choice, this father's day we ventured to Weston.  It was the Weston Air Show and the weather was predicted to be hot, hot, hot.

Weston-super-Mare is every bit the British seaside.  It is gloriously tacky.  Like most seaside towns in Britain, in it's heyday it was the place to enjoy all the glamour of the seaside, but over the years it has struggled, not helped by a fire in 2008 which devastated the Grand Pier.  There has been somewhat of a revival in Weston over the last few years (Banksy's bemeausment park, Dismaland was hosted here last year) and it's got it's own kind of vibe going on again.

My Zero Waste Journey: An Introduction

Zero Waste - living life without waste and keeping stuff out of landfill.

I do have a bit of an issue with the term "Zero Waste."  No-one can be 100% zero waste, so I feel it's a bizarre term for something that's unachievable for 99.99% of the population.  Also, I can't help but feel it's a name for a lifestyle that often seems to be glamourised across social media.  The underlying message is always that of reducing waste and working towards a world with less plastic but it can often be bundled together with minimalism and I don't always think they have to go hand in hand.

Despite my hesitancy of the term Zero Waste, I have found myself dipping my toes into the world of Zero Waste, mainly by joining online communities and scouring Pinterest for ideas on how I can reduce the amount of waste I produce.  I am a realist and I know I will never achieve 100% Zero Waste, I would genuinely be happy to just halve it.  To begin with, I just want to be more mindful.…

Is this thing on?

Here I am, once again dipping my toes into the world of blogging. Me and blogging - we got history. That said, things have changed greatly since I was last here, both in terms of blogging and of my life.

Things have moved on so much so, that if I dare to tell people of my beauty blogging past; those heady days of meeting the Barry M, Gosh Darling-mania and the never-ending quest to find the ultimate "My Lips But Better" lipstick, they look at my often dishevelled hair, distinct lack of make-up and the dried mysterious substance on my t-shirt (likely to be a gift from one of my small people) and a vague expression passes their face and the subject is swiftly changed.

Cacti & Feathers is going to be the space for me to indulge in my desire to write, that is what I have really missed. I've always found writing to be incredibly cathartic and if there is a time in my life I need catharsis, it is now.  Life is just hurtling on by and it needs …
